Recently, at my business writing site, I shared some overused business words.
One that did not make the list but should have is Guru. Social media is a breeding ground for gurus. Typically, self-professed.
Consider the attached SlideShare presentation my personal Public Service Announcement. I wrote it for freelancers (of any kind) but it applies if you are in the market for an “expert” of anything.
A Guru Follower’s Aha Moment
=================
Jennifer Mattern says
Good one Cathy! 🙂
Cathy Miller says
Thanks, Jenn. 🙂
Anne Wayman says
Clever… careful, you’ll become a guru 😉
Cathy Miller says
Ha! Little chance of that, Anne. 😉
Paula Hendrickson says
Your slideshow speaks volumes, Cathy!
I’ve never understood why so many people are gullible enough to follow self-professed gurus. Then again, even as a teen I never understood why anyone was dumb enough to follow the in-crowd.
Cathy Miller says
Boy, that brings back memories, Paula. And I was right there with you. I was too involved in sports to be enamored with the in-crowd. 😉
Ramiro says
When I read the words ‘self-professed and guru’ I smiled because I knew this was going to be good. I’m still smiling 🙂
Paula said, Your slideshow speaks volumes. It does. It speaks volumes about you! You’re a creative professional. Or is that a guru?
Cathy Miller says
Hey Ramiro. Good to see you here. You’re the second person to refer to me as a Guru. Definitely, not my intent. 😀
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the kind words.
