What’s better than combining two of my favorite things? Word prompt site, Creative Copy Challenge and Halloween.
The challenge words certainly took on a ghoulish theme this week. At least in the mind of this Halloween lover.
Check out the latest submission. Following the ghoul tale is a challenge ripe with a list of homophones — two or more words having the same pronunciation but different meanings, origins, or spellings.
The challenge words are in bold. Happy haunting.
Halloween Theme – Creative Copy Challenge #407
The life a ghoul is full of stress. Warts galore with careless placement, like the one on the tip of Clayborn’s nose. The chiseled fangs. The demonic eyes. Not exactly an invitation for a hug.
He was convinced his birth body was a mistake. Warts n all were not what he felt inside. Inside he had the heart of a teddy bear. Clayborn yearned to comfort and to be embraced in return. Was that so wrong for a ghoul?
Although he didn’t like to judge, his village featured werewolves with their vile habits and the decaying undead, who were more than a little unnerving. It was a terrorvision of spine tingling proportions. Clayborn didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
His life was either a sinister scene of slashing menace or a cartoonish caricature of a surreal Skelebob. Clayborn hated his life.
“Hello. Can you tell me how to get to the city of Hope?”
The question danced on a sweet sound that had angels folding their wings in gentle reverence. Clayborn gazed into blue eyes as boundless as the sea and a smile more dazzling than the brightest moon.
“Were you talking to me?” he rasped. “I don’t frighten you?”
“Why would you do that? Do you know the city of Hope?”
“Only in my dreams.”
“Maybe we can find it together.”
Creative Copy Challenge #406
The pale moon dipped like a pail catching stars. The night ate the lingering light and cast it behind its eight layers of darkness.
She felt her mood alter as fear took over what had been her altar of hope. She fought against the band of panic that strangled thought and banned her body to act.
Where was he? Did she buy enough time? Had she earned a bye on the next chapter of pain?

So, Clayborn would be really bummed to find out that Halloween is the day the world was first flooded (Noah’s flood). The original terrovision!
