We all have one. The Inner Nag.
That voice inside that always has something to say.
Some of us are better at ignoring the Inner Nag than others. I’d venture to say some of us are unaware of the existence of the droning drivel.
Recently, I silenced the Inner Nag. The reprieve has been lovely.
The Inner Nag
The Inner Nag thrives on Catholic guilt. She loves tapping into old school work ethics and the idea that a break from the norm is a sign of laziness.
2014 had an unusual end to my business life.
Typically, December has an overwhelming sound of crickets as clients and businesses take off for the holidays. 2014 was not like that.
I had more work than ever. Certainly far more for that time of the year. Something had to give.
So I decided to put my weekly posts at my business and health care blog sites to bed early.
God rest ye merry blog posts.
Silence Ye Nag
The first few weekends of blog rest caused a sharp gasp of breath. Monday was coming and there wasn’t a post in the queue.
- Then I remembered
- I put them to rest
- Ah, bliss
Of course, being the deep-thinker I am (stop laughing), I wondered why it took me so many years to let go.
I pride myself on rebel ways.
- I don’t follow Guru advice
- I limit my social media connections
- I still am not on Pinterest (shocking, I know)
That Inner Nag tried to tell me I was letting my readers down. My work demanded it. My hits would plummet.
But I stood up to the Nag.
- My readers are way cooler than that
- My work will go on
- So my hits plummet
The South rose again and so can I.
I’ve enjoyed the reprieve. I renewed my energy and I look forward to what 2015 has to offer.
Bring it. Even the Inner Nag.

And, now you’re back.
Has the nag really changed its ways?
Cathy Miller says
Only back on my personal blogs. 😉 I think she probably took a temporary snooze, Roy. 😀
Anne Wayman says
I work to enroll mine in supporting me rather than nagging me… sometimes works.
Cathy Miller says
You’ve trained her well, Anne. 😉

My inner nag tried following me on vacation last month, Cathy. However, we let her stew. No one is around in December anyway, so I didn’t put a ton of energy into the posts.
But she’s back with a vengeance now. 🙂
Cathy Miller says
She does like to get around doesn’t she, Lori? 😉 How rude to think she can intrude on your vacation. 😀
