An Idaho morning
If you would have told me five years ago my home location would be Boise, Idaho, I would have called the men in the white coats.
Maybe for me instead of you.
- I was born in the Midwest
- But, lived most of my life in California
- A good portion in lovely San Diego
- With vacations in Maui – sunshine, baby
Fast forward, it’s been three years since I moved to Boise. Where does the time go?
Never Say Never
Recently, I was teasing a fellow writer who lives in Barbados that she needed some snow in her life. Her response was ~
“Been there, done that – never want to see the wet stuff again.”
Shades of me – for many years.
So, what changed? Why isn’t it location, location, location anymore?
Life happened.
Life is What You Make It
The life events that brought me here may have been unexpected five years ago, but I was determined to make the most of the opportunity.
- I appreciate the beauty that Idaho offers
- I welcome the peace of having my own business
Sure, there’s stress with running your own business, but the boss is really nice (most of the time).
We blame life events, locations, and even the weather for our unhappiness. If only it was that simple.
Maybe it’s not location, location, location.
Maybe it’s the happiness we find in our heart.

Good ole +1 like or whatever you want. Bliss is where you find it.
Cathy says
There’s actually a town named Bliss, Idaho, Wade. LOL! 😀
Thanks for stopping by.
Sharon Hurley Hall says
Great lesson, Cathy – and that’s why you should never say never. Who knows? One day I might get tired of the sunshine. 🙂
Cathy says
Thanks, Sharon. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t trade places with you every now and then. 😉
Anne Wayman says
Sounds like grounded mindfulness to me, Cathy… gorgeous picture btw.
Cathy says
Thanks, Anne. That’s out our backyard and it was a beautiful sunrise. 🙂

Hi Cathy,
As usual a very good post. You saved the best for last though and I had to smile when I read “Maybe it’s the happiness we find in our heart.” How true!
It looks like you have a very big backyard that requires a lot of work!
Cathy says
Thanks, Ramiro. Nice to see you here again. 🙂
We have an acre of land and with the triple-digit heat we’ve been having, keeping the grass green is tough-as you can probably tell by the brown spots. 🙂 At least the front lawn is green 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Ramiro.
Lori says
Cathy, you’ve found your bliss. What a wonderful way to live life. 🙂
The older I get, the more I want to be around people whom I love. I don’t care where that is as long as I’m surrounded by those people and things that have shaped who I am. I love where I am now, but it’s not the house or the mall or the proximity to the shore — it’s who I’m living with that matters.
Sharon Hurley Hall says
Agreed, Lori. 🙂
Cathy says
Ditto to your Agreed, Sharon. 🙂
Cathy says
Beautifully said, Lori. Apparently, there is a lot of that going round. My younger sister is off on vacation and celebrating her 31st anniversary. She and her husband just get it.
They live on a farm in a small town in southern Idaho that is part of her husband’s family farm. When she was younger, she talked about moving away when their son was grown. Now, she says she knows how much the farm means to her husband and she is fine wherever he is.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Lori.
Lori says
Cathy, not to get your hopes up, but the husband and I had discussed checking out Idaho as a possible post-retirement landing place. He talked to someone at work who had property in northern Idaho, and he was promoting the heck out of it. 🙂
Lori says
Or maybe I should say not to scare you. LOL Depends on your outlook, I guess.
Cathy says
That would be hopes, Lori-definitely hopes. 🙂
Northern Idaho is beautiful. The University of Idaho is in Coeur d’Alene-a beautiful area near the Washington border. Of course, that puts you in a different time zone from Boise. 😀
