I never turn down writer buddy, Brandi Ann Uyemura when she comes a-calling.
For some odd reason, Brandi found my path to freelance business writing fascinating. Go figure.
Check out my guest post at Brandi’s blog. Here’s a sneak peek.

From Corporate to Freelance Business Writer in Just 30 Years
I cherished my sister’s Nancy Drew books.
Like so many things in a family of seven children, the books I loved were hand-me-downs. Okay, to be honest, they were never mine. But, I read them from cover to cover and back again.
I think it was then I realized I wanted to write. To say there were a few twists in my journey is putting it mildly.
Doomed From the Womb
I am the middle child of those seven, and the first born under insurance.
Little did I know that sealed my fate. I like to say I was doomed from the womb to be in insurance. And that’s what I did – for over 30 years.

I read whatever was lying around the house. At the time, it was The Hardy Boys (my brother’s discarded books). Mom and Dad weren’t big readers, so we were a bit literature-starved. I remember those school book order days – it was like Christmas.
Likewise paper. We never had paper or pens in the house. Drove me absolutely mad. I’d pilfer my dad’s “check pen” between paydays and reuse tablets. We weren’t poor. It’s that they didn’t get that they had a budding writer in the house. In a way, I have them to thank for this career. The frustration to get in on paper grew over the years and here I am.

Love that story, Lori! It shows great perseverance on your end. See, even then you knew what you wanted.
Both my Mom and Dad were avid readers and encouraged us to read. It has been my #1 form of entertainment as long as I can remember. With 7 kids in the house; however, it was seldom that you owned something that was truly your own. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your story, Lori.
